Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained -- Really! -- April 21, 2006
With the upcoming MISMO vote pending on the acceptance of Intelligent PDF’s into the MISMO standard, we should expect some very objective coverage from not only the media but our industry associations. After all, the implications of modifying the standards have significant downstream impacts on information availability, security, and survivability. Nevertheless, what has struck me as odd is the lack of coverage outside of a few non-practicing journalists who have decided to sensationalize the changes rather than report the facts.
For those of us trying to inform the mortgage industry on the pros and cons using interview based analysis, extensive research, and new media formats, we are faced with editors and association members who “believe we are moving too fast” or one where the “Organizations are not prepared to talk about it.” It seems very odd that only the negative press is allowed to be published when a vote on the topic is pending. It begs the question if it’s not time to talk about it before the vote, then when is a good time?
Alas, the real question is that "have industry representatives given into special interest pressures, internal biases, or other influencing effects which lack objectivity and the best interest of their paying constituents?” Why is everyone so intimidated or reluctant to publish meaningful dialogue on such an important change?
